"Blue Skies for Our Children"... This is Honda's new global environmental slogan. Pretty strong, isn't it? In just five simple words it colors the brain power, man hours, sweat, and funds Honda is willing to invest into ensuring future generations will be swinging or playing ball in the warmth of the sun with a clear blue sky overhead.

It also conjures images of what could happen if Honda and the world as a whole doesn't commit to "Blue Skies for Our Children... where youth are outside under a perpetually bleak, gray mass of smog, wearing oxygen masks or worse yet confined indoors. Obviously we have a long way to go before we hit such a low, but if we ever do, it will be irreversible.

The slogan has been adopted to grow passion around Honda's recently announced goal to reduce their carbon emissions, both in terms of their products and the production processes used to make them. Specifically, the Japanese automaker is striving to cut CO levels by 30 percent compared to 200 levels, by 2020. The new initiative actually follows a similar goal set in 2006: To reduce CO emissions by 10 percent compared to 2000 levels, by 2010.

Speaking on the newly adopted slogan "Blue Skies for Our Children", Ben Knight, VP Honda R&D Americas, Inc. said, "These words arouse strong emotions in Honda engineers, and take me back to a time four decades ago when the same phrase served as a rallying cry for Honda's first effort to tackle a challenging environmental issue."1
