For many dog owners, there will never be a better vehicle than the Honda Element. Though officially discontinued, many drivers keep their eyes peeled for one in our used Honda lineup. What makes it a great car for dog owners? Aside from winning the "Dog Car of the Year" award in 2007, it featured a hefty 74.6 cubic feet of cargo room with the back seats down. What's more, it's boxy design ensures that no dog will be cramped.
Of course, with no new Honda Element models being produced these days, one question that we here at DCH Honda of Temecula are asked quite frequently is, "What other new Honda models are just as dog friendly as the Element? And to that, we typically respond with two models in mind. One is the 2012 Honda CR-V. The other is the 2012 Honda Pilot.
Starting with the smaller of the two, the 2012 Honda CR-V only sacrifices four cubic feet of cargo room when its rear seats are down. In total, it sports 70.9 cubic feet of room, and still manages to pack quite a bit under its hood. Specifically, the compact crossover SUV is equipped with a 2.4-liter i-VTEC inline-four under the hood, paired with a five-speed automatic transmission.
Then there's the 2012 Honda Pilot. It features more cargo room than the CR-V, with a grand total of 87 cubic feet when both rows of seats are down. Of course, if you want room for both your dog and family, you can opt to leave on row up. This option provides seating for five, and a total of 47.7 cubic feet of room in the back.
