One by one, Honda is taking every possible automotive risk and rendering it irrelevant. Most recently in its lineup of stellar safety technologies comes LaneWatch, available first on the 2013 Honda Accord.
For those who might be thinking that it sounds like any other lane-departure monitoring system out there, allow DCH Honda of Temecula to assure you it's not. In fact, Honda LaneWatch is so inventive and unique that it's earned a place among the finalists for AOL Autos' 2012 Technology of the Year award.
Using an advanced camera fixed under the passenger-side rear-view mirror, the new Honda feature actually provides real-time visual access to an otherwise risky blind spot. Wide-angle images are sent to the vehicle's 8-inch dash-mounted display screen and include different colored lines to indicate distance between traffic. What's more, drivers can choose to activate the technology manually or have it turn on automatically in tandem with the right blinker.
Eventually, LaneWatch will be used for a wide variety of new Honda vehicles. However, for now the system is introduced via the stunning refreshed Accord.
Michael Accavitti, Vice President of Marketing Operations for American Honda, says, "The new Accord was designed to provide excellent visibility for the driver and all passengers. LaneWatch is a natural fit with that philosophy, and it's an intuitive advancement in technology..."1
As the AOL Autos Technology of the Year award will be announced in early 2013, we invite you to stay tuned. Our Temecula team will keep you up to date on the latest details as they emerge.
