Fall is officially here, and that means that many places are wrapping up their summer activities, including drive-in theaters. Unfortunately, several drive-ins across America run the risk of closing for good, but Honda's on a mission to change that all around.

Last month, Honda launched Project Drive-In, a project designed to gather public input via online voting polls about which drive-in they'd like to save. You see, these drive-in theaters have found themselves in a conundrum; they need to upgrade to using digital projectors which cost upwards of $80,000 a screen. This is out of several theaters' financial range which forces them to find means of fundraising or worse, closing.

So Honda offered to fund five theaters with the technology they need, and ran the pulls for a month between August and September. Today, we share with you the results:

      1. Saco Drive In: Saco, ME
      2. Cherry Bowl Drive-In: Honor, MI
      3. Graham Drive-In: Graham, TX
      4. McHenry Outdoor Theater: McHenry, IL
      5. 99 Drive-In: Newberg, OR

Actually, Honda took it further than that thanks to public participation and contributions. Honda is actually helping an additional four theaters with the technology necessary to return for the 2014 year.

Here's what Alicia Jones, Manager of Honda Social Media at American Honda Motor Co., Inc. had to say about one of the winners:

"Saving the 99 W Drive-In theaters means saving romantic proposals, quality time with friends and family, and nostalgic experiences."1
