A year and some change after the tenth generation Honda Civic hit the market, we now offer it in no less than three different body styles—sedan, hatch, and coupe. But what many—enthusiasts, in particular—were waiting for was the range-topping model, the 2017 Civic Type R. Yesterday, they got their wish and a street date at the Geneva Motor Show.

The Civic Type R hot hatch proudly wears a meaner version of the 10th generation car’s design. Differentiated by air intakes, tri-centerline exhaust, and of course, that wing-based rear spoiler, no one will mistake it for its more pedestrian siblings (although these days, one could hardly say any Civic model looks pedestrian).

Beneath that glistening sheet metal are tools virtually every enthusiast will approve of. It starts with the 2.0-liter DOHC direct-injection turbocharged i-VTEC inline-four with 306 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of twist. No automatic transmission will be offered, meaning fans of manual shifting finally have their niche in the Civic family. With Brembo front rotors, 13.8-inch cross-drilled front rotors and 12-inch rear rotors handling the braking action, you’ve got the fun factor cut out for you.

Better yet, you don’t have long to wait! The 2017 Civic Type R will arrive at our Honda dealership in Temecula, CA this spring, following its American debut at the New York Auto Show. Contact us to set up a test drive.
